What IngramSpark is
IngramSpark is a self-publishing platform built around distribution. Titles can be listed with Ingram so that bookstores, libraries and other retailers can order them through the channels they already use. It supports print-on-demand books and ebooks, with a range of formats including hardcovers.
Wide distribution is not the same as bookstore shelf space. A listing makes it possible for a store or library to order your book, but it does not mean they will stock it. Authors who succeed in physical retail usually combine good production quality, sensible pricing and active promotion with local relationships.
Who it suits
- Authors who want their book orderable by bookstores and libraries
- Authors producing hardcovers or specific trim sizes
- Independent publishers building an imprint
- Authors who want to be available beyond a single retailer
What to prepare before you upload
- Print-ready interior and cover files built to the platform's specifications
- Your own ISBN, which is expected for this kind of distribution
- Accurate metadata, including subject codes and a strong description
- A pricing and discount plan that works for retailers and for you
- A decision on returns, which affects risk and cost
- Clear ownership of rights and any illustrations or images used
Things to weigh up
- File checks can be strict, so errors in covers or fonts can delay approval
- Retailer discount and returns settings affect your income per sale
- Fees and terms change from time to time, so review the current IngramSpark terms
- Many authors also list on KDP to cover Amazon, so plan how the two work together

Common questions
Will IngramSpark get my book into bookstores?
It makes your book available for stores and libraries to order. Whether they stock it depends on their own buying decisions, your promotion and your book's appeal to their customers.
Do I need my own ISBN?
In practice, yes. Owning your ISBN means you are the publisher of record and keep control of your edition across channels.
Can I use IngramSpark and KDP together?
Many authors do. They manage distribution to avoid conflicts, for example by deciding which channel supplies which retailers. We can talk through the setup with you.
